Default gift ideas for two boys

I just met one of my neighbors the other night and she invited me to a birthday party (it is for both of her boys) this weekend. One turned 3 last month and the other is turning 4 this month (they are 10.5 months apart -- wow!!).

Do you think it is appropriate to buy a joint gift for them or should I do a gift for each child? My thinking is that kids (esp siblings) usually just share toys at that age anyway. Maybe one gift and two cards? If I did buy just one gift, I'd spend a little bit more $$ than I would on just one gift.

Any suggestions for toys for 3 and 4 year old boys?

I think boys of all ages love cars and trains! Maybe you can get each boy something similar but not exactly the same (like 2 diff. cars, for example) and they can share both. Boys love remote control things too. Boys and their gadgets - they don't change much as they grow up, eh?

Yeah, coordinating items sounds good. If you give them each their "own" it will prevent possible arguments which would be nice for their parents, and if they are similar then they can still share.

thanks all! I bought them each a crayola color wonder marker kit (the kind that the markers only work on the specific kind of book that it comes with). One is Nemo and the other is Pirates. Nicole has one and she loves it!

that is a great choice!

when I was pregnant with Marissa, some friends on another board threw us a baby shower. one of the ladies sent Brandon and Logan the color wonder marker kits. Brandon got Nemo and Logan got Diego. They love it! (and I love the fact that they only work on the proper paper)

Great choice D!

My nephews are similar, they will be 5 10/13 and 6 11/26 respectively. (Different mamas, same daddy) Joint gifts don't always work well for them, but it is getting better as they get older at least. I do the same, try to get similar gifts, with different characters or colors. Once in a blue moon they get identical stuff, but when they were younger we always got them identical stuff, to prevent fights. They actually learned hwo to recognizwe their names early because their mom (well the oldest's mom, and the younger's stepmom) put their names on everything. Anyhow, sorry for the ramble! LOL!
