Default teething: truth or myth?

I have heard that teething can cause cold symptoms, but have also heard that it's a myth. What would you guys say according to your own experiences with teething?

As you know Wes has gotten his two bottom teeth and he had no fever or any cold symptoms. What I think is maybe when the molars come in it is harder on them and they well maybe run a fever. So no I don't think it's a myth.

I believe in some kids teething will cause cold like symptoms & in some it doesn't. Thats why I think people will say its a myth (because it never happened with thier kids). I know my kids were more irritable sometimes & sometimes had mild fevers (just slightly warm to the hand, never enough to break out the thermometer for).

Definitely saw runny nose and even a fever with the eye teeth. Justin had a runny nose with nearly all of his top teeth.

I totally agree with that!

Nicole would usually run a lowgrade fever and become a bit more irritable (nothing ever horrible though, she really did well with new teeth for the most part) when she was working on new teeth. Lots more drool and sometimes more sleep were clues.

All four eye teeth came in at the same time for her, and that was a little rough. I gave her motrin before bed + teething tablets, and then teething tabs, cold washcloths during the day.

I agree that it depends on the child. Bug always had a runny nose and fever every time. Luckily we only had to go through it a few times because she always did 4 teeth at a time, boy did it make her cranky! She would even get fevers up to 102 with teething, took her to the Dr, and nothing wrong just teething. As soon as the 4th tooth would break the surface the fever would break and with in an hour was totally gone. I highly recomend the vibrating teethers they have out now, after I got Bug one it cut her teething time way down!

My daughter never did have any symptoms apart from the usual bright red and burning cheeks!

However my best friends daughter, had the runny nose and high temperature each and every time a new tooth started to appear.

So it depends on the baby

Default Teeth

Hi there,

My Tanya had trouble when she was teething. She was dribbling all of the time and I was getting through around 4 bibs a day!!!
But please do not worry! Buy some teething rings these are brilliant!

Love Charlie xx

Both my kids got runny noses with teething. But Janelle got actually sick with every teething episode...as in she'd run high fevers and have a cold...My ped said it wasn't actually from the teething but more that having open bleeding gums opens your body up to infections so she would catch something everytime she was teething.

Kincaid got diarea really bad with every tooth. Our ped said that is from more acidic and just more plentiful saliva than his tummy was used to and that this is completely normal.
