For those of you who have done south beach, do you think you can get the info you need from the internet, or is the book a necessity? I am basically doing phase 2 right now (from what I've googled), but want to see if there are specific menus or other info that I 'must' have.
I am thinking that after the holidays I will do SB phase 1 just to see if I can do it.

I found all I needed online but also found the library had all the books too. I checked them out for 3 weeks. It took several sites to put it all together but I got most of the info I needed. But there are alot of recipes and meal planes at HT

I think you can get all the info you need about the SBD online. There's so much out there.

Today I walked 2.5 miles. My new goal is: exercise! I'm really not good at dieting. I enjoy eating healthy foods, but I also enjoy snacks and sweets so it is hard to be so restrictive.

I too, am on a weight loss kick for about the last 4 weeks -- I think I have lost 4 lbs so far. My biggest incentive -- NONE of my winter clothes fit! and I refuse to go buy more!

Anyway -- not doing a specific diet -- I am cutting out most snacks & sweets & cokes and cutting portions. I am also faithfully walking a very fast paced mile every evening on the treadmill. I was actually walking outside, but now that the time changed, it is almost dark when I get home.

I wanted to mention a trick I heard about portion control for those of you who are having issues with that. I read somewhere that the average woman should eat approximately half what her husband eats b/c our metabolism is generally lower. So, I normally fix J's plate then put about half that amount on my plate.

Next, that same article said to use a salad plate instead of a dinner plate -- since it is smaller, it looks like a full plate and tricks your mind into thinking you are eatting a whole plate of food.

Also, if you normally place your meals on the table, it said to leave them on the stove. You are less likely to get a second helping if it is not sitting on the table in front of you.

Hope those ideas help!

Interesting hints! We almost always use our salad plates for some reason. The dinner plates are just too big, I guess!
