Default Caffeine and miscarriage?

I read this article today, I thought it was interesting.

Study: Caffeine may boost miscarriage risk - CNN.com

It says that women who had more than 200mg a day of caffeine (abt 2 cups of coffee) had twice the risk of miscarrying as those who drank no caffeine. It think the percentages were around 14% who went without miscarried and 25% of those who drank caffeine miscarried. There wasn't a significant difference for those who drank less than 200mg though. Their recommendations was just to cut caffeine consumption way down, particularly through the first trimester.

My ob said the same thing but the high risk ob said different....that up to 6 sodas or 2 cups of coffee a day was perfectly fine according to newer studies. Dunno, but I did enjoy the soda

I cut caffeine out in the first tri with both pregnancies. But after the 1st tri I'd have some 1/2 caff coffee in the am and limit myself to 1 diet coke a day (didn't have DC every day). Ever since my 2nd pg, I only drink on DC a day. I still drink 2-3 cups of full caff coffee in the am though....

I've heard of people worrying about it while TTC but I have never seen any studies on it. It seems like caffeine couldn't affect something like that. I don't think it would affect fertility cycles or anything.

I stopped drinking coffee well before I TTC Griffin and was completely off of it through my pregnancy and nursing. I started 1/2 caff coffee and moved slowly up to 1 cup of caff. coffee a day (sometimes my cup sometimes Dunkin Donuts medium ) I have not given up coffee this time around TTC and that is the only difference so I am considering it but I believe fully that my coffee makes me a better mom to G!!

I stopped drinking coffee a few months before TTC Jax, got pregnant right away and did not drink it again until after he was born. The month I got pregnant this time, I honestly don't think I've ever drank as much coffee in my life.....and this was after 8 months of trying and drastically cutting down, but not totally eliminating caffeine. Point being....there was not really a correlation with fertility in my case, that I know of. But, I have heard that it affects it as well. As far as the miscarriage risk, I don't want to chance it.... so I have almost completely eliminated coffee. I drink very little caffeine now.

Like so many things, i don't think there is a true correlation with the two... more coincidence or side effect type stuff. I have seen a LOT of articles on the effects of caffeine... nobody can agree! I think it is one of those, if you TTC without it and aren't gettign anywhere, try ti with it and see what happens!

When I was preggo with K I couldn't drink pop, except for decaff. root beer. I got really queasy if I did. I don't really drink much coffee, but love iced coffee. I couldn't drink that because it made me have to poo so much I couldn't stay out of the bathroom. Of course if I really was in the mood for it I would make half hot chocolate/ half iced coffee and it didn't effect me as bad, but I only did it once or twice a month. During my third trimester I was able to drink pop again but limited it to when I hadn't felt her move in a while and wanted to make sure she was ok. I did drink tea alot during the pregnancy but that was after the first trimester.
