With D it lasted about 2 weeks and it hurt like crazy. It even hurt to breathe. I didn't BF or pump, and had enough milk to feed an army. With E it didn't last long. This cow was just too old to produce milk. The boom booms didn't hurt very long, maybe a week...nor did they hurt half as much as they did the first time.
I hope all heals quickly in the boober department. |

Woah, two weeks, K!!?? Ahh! That's terrible.
For me, it lasted only 1 day. I thought I was going to die that day, but it was so short lived. I tried everything to get C to latch on that day too, and it wasn't happening, which made the engorgement worse b/c he wouldn't eat. I finally had to pump, but in the meantime, I tried the cabbage leaves in the bra thing, the warm compress/shower, and I jumped out of the bath and immediately stuck a baby on my boob while DH tried to help me get it flowing by pushing on me. It was soooo insane the lengths we went to -- I was in so much pain that I was willing to try anything. I'm so thankful it was fine by the next morning. Such a crazy day! I bawled that day!! Most of my SIL's and sisters and friends say they never experienced anything like this -- most didn't even feel the milk coming in. Dang my luck! I hope yours is short lived. It seems so different for everyone.... |

Ok my question is this: We all obviously produce way more milk the first day than what our babies need or are going to eat...so what happens??? Does it just disappear or you don't produce more until it is drained? I can't remember this at all....but then again, Jax ate like a hog so maybe he just drained it all immediately.
I don't know, but wow - my boobs are HUGE and hard! lol |

You'll keep over-producing until your body figures out exactly what Jett needs. His appetite should also pick up a lot now that your milk is in, and he'll start taking more (so it sortof balances out -- you start producing less as he starts eating more until you reach that balance). The rock hard engorgement shouldn't last too long (although I didn't feel "normal" for months... they didn't feel like boulders for more than a week or 2). Hopefully it will happen pretty quickly since it's your 2nd kiddo.
