Default Going all natural at the hair salon

I am interested in going "green" at the salon...not my hair but with the products we use. I think it would be beneficial for the clients as well as me. I am tired of using so many chemicals. I have been looking online for help and haven't heard of many. Any ideas? Do you think people would be interested in this concept? I have found color with little or no ammonia but perms are out. They apparantly need that rancid smell to them. I did find one that is pretty mild.

Yes, going natural is pretty hot trend right now, so I imagine you could attract and interest lots of clients that way. I don't know of any specific product lines or brands that are safe and still provide good results for styling. Aveda claims to be all-natural, but they still contain tons of chemicals. Burt's Bees does a few shampoos and conditioners, but no other styling products that I know of. Aubrey Organics seems to have a pretty complete line. Another brand I know of is Jason Natural Cosmetics, but I've never used any of their hair products.

I think it's a very good idea, but I honestly don't know how successful you'll be. Most hair care products contain so much stuff in them that's toxic and unnatural, but they provide the results we've come to desire & associate with healthy hair - shiny, smooth locks, nice fragrance, etc. Once you start taking out the toxic chemicals, the products just don't do the same thing. They don't lather like you're used to, they don't "condition" like you're used to, etc. I have yet to find one that I really like. Currently I'm using a Burt's Bees shampoo.

Check out the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep database here: Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Database and maybe you can enter the specific salon brands you're used to & find something that's not so bad?

I'd be totally interested. I know a lot of people would be (pregnant women especially). It definitely sounds like an awesome idea. Maybe offer it as an option first to see how goes?

That's where I'd go to get my hair done! I don't have any suggestions for you though.

Thanks Jana. I have used one line so far in the salon. Its Farouk CHI Organic Olive Nutrient Shampoo and Conditioner. Its "ok". I don't love it but don't hate it. Its an option. All my customers are VERY interested in the idea. They said they are tired of all chemicals. Your right about the lather though. And the smell is very "natural"...lolI looked into the Jason brand and it looks good. I will keep looking thanks for your help. I knew we would have some natural Momma's on here...

I'm hoping more feel this way. There are alot of things you can change. I have already cut down on the chemicals we clean with.

I looked on the Burts Bees website and I like their concept. I just am tired of having to use so many chemicals. My hands hurt sometimes from all the products. You can't wear gloves ALL the time
