My Roundup of Parenting Books

I have so many parenting books, I think I could rent out a shelf at Barnes and Noble. There are a bunch that I’ve decided I’m officially done with. They are good, but not appropriate for me anymore!

2. Parenting Baby Must-Haves
3. The ABCs of Breastfeeding
4. The Nursing Mother’s Companion
5. The Baby Whisperer Solves All Your Problems
6. Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child
7. Baby Signs
8. Small Talk

Plus some others I have either read or have and have given away or still think I’ll refer to.
What do you think? Any suggestions to add to the list for age infant to two?

Shrink your hips after pregnancy

Wouldn’t it be lovely if we could magically shrink our hips right back to pre-pregnancy size or even smaller? Well apparently with Shrinkx you can. I have a serious problem with the picture they show on their page. Have they ever seen a brand new mother? Sorry, but she certainly doesn’t look like the woman they have modeling their product.

Shoes to get fit or a bunch of BS?

Ever since my friend, Hannah, stepped into the gym with her cool looking MBT Shoes and raved about their health and body-toning benefits, I have been obsessed. If it weren’t for the steep price tag and the fact that I had just gotten a brand new pair of orange pumas, I would have been sporting those puppies months ago.

Then came FitFlops, the flip flop derivative from a different company, with a very do-able price tag. However, after trying them on, I was not convinced. I see women wearing them all the time and each person I questioned admits that although they are super comfy (which personally I didn’t feel), they don’t do a thing as far as fitness.

Enter Skechers Shape Ups, the newest of the bunch to claim cellulite reduction and perkier buns just by wearing them. The design makes sense and I can see how you have to work your muscles just to prevent yourself from toppling over. They are about $100 less costly than the MBTs, but will still dent your wallet a bit and I am worried that I’ll be wasting money on a very uncomfortable (and quite ugly) shoe.

Have you tried any of these shoes? What’s your opinion? Oh and Skechers or MBT, if you would like to send me a pair of sneaks so I can review them for real, send me a note and I’ll be happy to test them out!

Kidorable

I mentioned a few days ago that my kiddos got some really cute stuff from Kidorable.com. Well, here they are!

First, for my older son, in size 4-5 year is the Pirate Line, which included a pirate raincoat (complete with detachable eye patch) and matching hanger, a pirate umbrella and a hooded towel.

The pirate umbrella is not pictured because it is in my car!! We have already used it several times due to the rainy afternoons when I have to pick up my son from camp. The first day that I brought it was a surprise and he was thrilled. He was so excited to carry his “sword” to the car all by himself. I got wet, but he thoroughly enjoyed himself and that’s what matters, right?!

Next, is my 10 month old son with the Frog Line in size 2 year. This also included a raincoat with matching hanger, hooded towel and an umbrella.

As you can see, these products are too cute. The pictures don’t even do them justice because they look even better in person. The raincoats can double as costumes. They are very well made. The towels are great. They are really soft and a generous size. I love that they have a snap in the front so they stay on. Both boys have been using them for the past few days in a row after we’ve gone in the pool. I wish they made this stuff in my size!

Love Our Quinny

Now that Jett is becoming such a big boy, we are able to use our Quinny Zapp. It is such a great stroller. So light weight, compact, and easy to steer. It is the perfect stroller for travelling, going on walks and quick day-to-day errands. The main drawback is that it doesn’t recline. However, if you are a mom on a schedule, or rather, have a baby who is on a good schedule, you probably aren’t running around during their usual nap time anyway. Baby will sleep in this stroller, but I wouldn’t use it for naptime, just for them to take a quick snooze while you are out and about. Jett loves being in his stroller. He gets a wonderful view of his surroundings and feels very comfortable. Not that he is directly telling me this, but I can see from his reaction. He is always happy and never complaining while in the Quinny. There is even room for a small pup in the bottom basket.

The First Adventures of Incredible You

When I was a kid, my parents got me two personalized books that I absolutely loved. It was so cool to hear my name in the story and think it was all about me. I’ve been looking for something like that for Jax for a while now and finally came across the website Custom Made For Kids. Their personalized book, The First Adventures of Incredible You, is so beautifully written and put together. The pictures are gorgeous and the story is so sentimental. It honestly brought tears to my eyes as I was reading the last page. It includes your child’s favorite people and places and follows your child from the day he or she arrived on Earth through the exciting first adventures in life. I have never seen a personalized book like this before and would highly recommend it. It would make an awesome gift for a new baby or even better for a child’s birthday.
