I just saw a commerical for Tide detergent with a prim and proper mom upset about her tomboy daughter. I hate the message it is sending to young girls. Basically what they are saying is that a girl can’t be herself if she isn’t what her mother expects her to be. Shouldn’t we be teaching our daughters to love themselves exactly as they are? We should be teaching them that they are special and beautiful and loved no matter what. Parents are supposed to support their children and guide their children to follow what they believe in. We are supposed to teach them to be good, kind, and decent people. Not to judge someone because of the way they look or dress or for the things they enjoy.

Last year, Tide aired a commercial that showed a teenage girl asking her mother if she has seen her green blouse. The Mom flashbacks to wearing the blouse while out partying and had spilled something on it that left a stain. The Mom then lies to her daughter and says she has not seen it. The commercial goes on to show the Mom wash that bad stain out of the nice green blouse with the great TIDE detergent. The ending has the daughter being asked by the Mom “oh, I see you found your top” Daughter “Yes, must have been hiding in my closet somewhere”. So basically they are saying it’s O.k. to lie to your children yet you raise your children not to lie to you? The message is ridiculous and totally misguided.

I think whoever came up with the idea for these Tide commercials had a really horrible mother/daughter experience.

This is an amazing story. The teacher – the hero, is my (pseudo) cousin. In fact, some of you may remember her because she used to post on here as Jess&Wes. You can watch the video of the news segment by clicking on the “source” link at the bottom of the post.

———————————

WEST PALM BEACH, FL — “I’ve got legos at home”. At home, it’s playtime for three year-old Joey. But at school this week he learned an important lesson. His teacher, Jessica Parr, at Saint Juliana Catholic School saved his life.

On Wednesday, Joey and his classmates were outside. “We were on the playground and I noticed that Joey had popped something into his mouth, when I went over to ask him he showed me one of the seeds”. Parr was able to get one of the seeds she found and take it to the school’s health clinic to see if it was from a poisonous plant. Her suspicions were confirmed. She saw it on the list as a seed from a poisonous plant.

Parr says, “I saw it was the rosary seed and that’s when I called Poison Control and informed them what the seed was and they questioned whether he had chewed it or swallowed because it’s worse when he chews it”.

Joey was rushed to the hospital and remained there for eight hours for observation. Doctors say Joey will be fine. But if untreated, it could have been fatal. “I am lucky because I have 19 kids in my class, so thank God I happened to be standing close by”. Joey’s mother says Parr is his guardian angel. “In the middle of the night I woke up two or three times and just kissed him and gave him a big hug”.

Coincidentally, today was teacher appreciation day. Joey gave his guardian angel her own angel to watch over her. “You don’t know how precious it is. I am so thankful”.

Joey’s mother says she plans to hand out information about the rosary pea seed to parents in his school.

I found this great site last night after I got her email about poisonous plants and their parts. Very scary!

I never realized how time consuming having two kids was. It feels like I went from 1 to 5, not 2. My first was and still is a very spirited child. I suppose that doesn’t change. My new baby seems to be a lot calmer and easier, but actually, he is quite demanding as well. We’re finally at a point where my 3 year old is great at entertaining himself, but I want to play with him and interact with him when I can. The baby doesn’t nap so he needs my constant attention all day long. Neither are the greatest night sleepers either. It’s exhausting.

I don’t have the time right now needed to maintain the blog portion of BabyTalkers the way it should be. I wish I could update several times a week. I’d post about interesting and relevant tidbits of news, product reviews and information, and the (notso) exciting adventures of my life. I Just can’t at this point. I’m looking for someone….or several someones…..to temporarily take over, or at least share the responsibility of posting for me.

The last thing I want is for this site (my 3rd baby) to go down the drain. I love it and it’s so important to me, but clearly my lack of participation is having a negative affect on the forums and site in general. We have such a great community here. One of the biggest and most unique and interactive parts of this site are the journals. People here have the option to create a public or a private journal. The private ones are only available for paid subscribers (who also have access to “The Spot”). Some of our greatest and most lively conversations happen over there and not many people get to see that.

For the people that lurk or find the board through a search, it probably looks pretty dead around here. If you are a newbie, check out this post. Introduce yourself, join in the conversations, invite your friends.

1. Alabama

2. Indiana

3. Iowa

4. Kentucky

5. Michigan

6. New Mexico

7. North Carolina

8. Oklahoma

9. Pennsylvania

11. South Carolina

12. Texas

13. Utah

14. West Virginia

15. Wisconsin

I am not sure how any of you plan to vote, but please beware. This was forwarded to me and it was checked on snopes, see below.

Regarding the voting process on Nov 4, 2008!

In the event that any of you are planning to vote democrat on November 4, I thought I’d share the following info I received today from a
registered voter. When we go into the voting booths, if we first select the button “all democrats”, Barack Obama will be excluded from the vote.
However, if we choose ‘Barack Obama’ first and then select all democrats’, he will earn our votes. It’s likely you will not be told this information when you go to vote.

THIS IS TRUE, see the link below from snopes.

http://www.snopes.com/politics/ballot/straightticket.asp

*Now I’m not saying that this is going to happen in ALL of those states, but just BEWARE!!!

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the pregnant “man”. He was on Oprah today. I didn’t see it, but I read the story. I’m pretty torn because I have no moral issue calling a he a “she” or a she a “he” if that is what they choose to live their life as, having had the surgery or not. However, this “man” is obviously not a true man because although he had surgery to remove his breasts and went on testosterone therapy, his female reproductive organs were not removed. As a result, he is carrying a child, which we all know is a woman’s job. It is physically impossible for a real man to get pregnant. So, I’m just finding it pretty annoying how the media is giving this so much hoopla and calling it a “pregnant man” like this should go on Ripley’s Believe It Or Not or in the Guinness Book Of World Records or something. It’s clearly just a trans-gendered woman living as a man yet choosing to do an exclusively woman thing. Boggles my mind. What do you think?
