You know you need to work on your night time repertoire….
when you start singing “Wind Beneath My Wings”, “Open Arms”, and “Greatest Love Of All” to your toddler at bedtime. LOL! How pathetic is that?!?!
I normally don’t sing to Jax at bedtime or at least not enough songs that I run out and have to turn to old favorites from like elementary school!! Tonight, for some reason, he just really wanted mommy to sing to him…..a lot…..and I kept going and going and going. After singing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”, “Hush Little Baby”, “Rock-a-bye”, “The Rain Song” and……..err, “The Rainbow Connection”, I started singing the aforementioned songs because I honestly couldn’t think of anything else.
So ummm, what songs do you sing to your child at bed time? Hook me up with the lyrics too, if possible.

It may be kind of cheesy, but Barrett likes it.
The night that we brought N home from the hospital she was truly up all night. I remember singing "Thunder Road" to her over and over again b/c it was one of those songs that I knew every word.
Other songs we sing regularly...
The one that pops into my head before any other is a Carpenters song called "Close to You".
I do love the Carpenters with a passion, but I think the reason that song sticks out to me sooo much is b/c of the section that says...
(*) On the day that you were born
The angels got together and decided
To create a dream come true
So they sprinkled moondust in your hair
Of gold and starlight in your eyes of blue
C has bright blue eyes, and that section just seemed so fitting. I remember swaying and singing that song in my bedroom after nursing him in the middle of the night when he was soooo tiny, trying to get him back to sleep.. and almost every time my voice would crack b/c I would get so choked up singing those lyrics to him.
We also sing a song that you might hate, but he loves it. It's from Barney, and although he has never seen the show, he loves this song. I know it from babysitting my nephew in HS. It's the song they used to play at the end of each show. I sing this to him often times while changing his diaper b/c it gets him to hold still. He always sticks his feet in the air and wants me to kiss them when we get to the part that says, "And a kiss from me to you -(kiss sound here)".
The other song we sing is "I will", a Beatles song. Very cute song... he likes the "love you forever and forever, love you with all my heart" part.
ughhh, deana I looove Thunder Road.
I can't believe a month ago
I was alone, I didn't know you
I hadn't seen or heard you're name
...I would change the number of months depending on how old she was at the time. I sing it to A now sometimes.
I also tend toward ones from Disney movies and musicals. The ones I can think of have been listed. I need to learn more lyrics, too!
Moon, Moon, Moon - Laurie Berkner
You are My Sunshine
Jesus Love Me
Great is Thy Faithfulness
God Speed - Dixie Chicks ( I used to sing it to Noah and I sang it to C once and we can't break the habit) DIXIE CHICKS LYRICS - Godspeed (Sweet Dreams)
Hush, little baby, don't say a word
Mama's gonna show you a hummingbird
If that hummingbird should fly
Mama's gonna show you the evening sky
When the nighttime shadows fall
Mama's gonna hear the crickets call
As their song drifts from afar
Mama's gonna search for a shooting star
When that star has dropped from view
Mama's gonna read a book with you
When that story has been read
Mama's gonna bring your warm bedspread
If that quilt begins to wear
Mama's gonna find your teddy bear
If that teddy bear won't hug
Mama's gonna catch you a lightning bug
If that lightning bug won't glow
Mama's gonna play on her old banjo
If that banjo's out of tune
Mama's gonna show you the harvest moon
As the moon drifts through the sky
Mama's gonna sing you a lullaby...
Now ds requests songs, too. Lately I've been asked to sing Across the Universe, Hey Jude, Rock-a-Bye Baby, Su La Li, and Great Big Stars (I don't care for the overly breathy way this lady sings that one, but you can at least hear the tune and get all the lyrics.).
When ds was a baby, we used to sing Paul Simon's St. Judy's Comet to him. I think I need to start that one up again.
