Underwear Is Fun To Wear

We have completed week 3 of potty training and I’d say my little guy is almost completely “day-trained”. He is in underwear full time and hasn’t had an accident in a while. When I can, I put him in a pull-up for nap time and for the past few days he has woken up dry. He is still in diapers at night, but wakes up every morning ready to go potty. It’s clear he has held it in for a while and can’t wait to get his underwear on for the day. His last BM was in the toilet and I’m hoping that it continues from there. He even initiates when he has to go on his own now. When we are home, he’ll run to the bathroom, take off his pants and underwear and go all by himself.

Last night, we were in the car, and he told us he had to go, so my husband found a grocery store and I took our son in to the bathroom. He held it in until we found a place to stop, got him out of the car and found the toilet. I was so proud! We have never had an accident in the car. One of my biggest pieces of advice to those who are beginning potty training, would be to make sure you take your child to the bathroom right before you get in the car. We do this every time we leave the house, a restaurant, store, friend’s house, wherever we are…I make sure he goes before we start driving. If he doesn’t have to go, he doesn’t have to go, but I let him try and always tell him it was a good try. Last night we had gone about 15 minutes before we left the store so I didn’t think about asking him to go again right before we left, but I guess I should have. Thank goodness he told me he had to go, but when we first started PTing, I’m sure he would have had an accident.

Oh and by the way, totally off topic, but I am 30 weeks pregnant today!!!

  1. YAAAAYYYY all around!

We definitely always potty (or ask) ds before he gets in the car, too.

Oh, and I guess if you're using pull-ups/diapers at night, this isn't the most helpful tip, but we have had ds in underwear (the thicker Gerber "training underwear") at night for a couple months now, and occasionally he has accidents. It's *always* when I go to bed early and am sleeping too hard to wake up & take him in the middle of the night. I was considering putting him back in diapers for nighttime because I was tired of changing the sheets, but the accidents are really so infrequent that it just seemed like a waste. Well, I pulled out some of his wool soakers that he used to wear over his cloth diapers, and that is the PERFECT solution! He wears a soaker over his underwear and is completely dry on the outside, even if his undies are wet!
  2. Congratulations, C!! What awesome progress J is making! Yay especially on the BM in the potty! You make this sound so easy, I'm hoping my second time around is easier than the first.

LOL! Well, it was only pretty easy because HE was finally ready! I introduced him to the potty at 16 months old and he has gone on there every so often since then. Remember he is almost 3 (in a week!!) so it has been a long time coming. In recent months, he has shown a little bit more interest and I just got to the point where I felt like I needed to take more initiative and encourage him more. Once I did that, he seemed to be just as ready as I was.
  4. fantastic news! What a huge acomplishment. Go J!!

  11. Thanks!! It is really nice that I won't have to be changing two kids' diapers!!! I'm hoping that there is enough time that J will have it down so pat that he won't regress when the baby is born.
