Ok, it’s official. We’ve started for real this time and there’s no turning back! Whenever I worry about something my son is doing or rather, isn’t doing, he turns around and surprises me every time. Why should this be any different?!?!
Today he woke up and I brought him to the potty as we have been doing every single morning for weeks now. For the past several days he has refused to wear diapers during the day and only wants pull-ups, which is great since it makes it much easier to get to the toilet on time. So, he went potty and we put on his pull-up. We had breakfast, watched a little tv, played for a bit, then got dressed to get ready for our final mommy and me class.
Before we left the house, I reminded Jax to go potty and to my surprise his pull-up was dry. So far so good! We got to class and about mid-way through, I had to go to the bathroom so I asked J if he wanted to come with me. He jumped at the opportunity and lo and behold, pull-up was still dry and he went for the third time on the potty.
After class, we went to my parents house and had lunch. Jax was playing with my dad and had to poop, which he still refuses to do on the potty. We left him alone and let him do his business. He came to get me when he was done and wanted to flush it down the toilet. I made an exaggerated effort to point out that “yes, that’s where it is supposed to go. Poop goes IN the potty.” So that was that and we changed his pull-up for the first time that day.
I then left to run some errands and my parents called an hour later to say that Jax had fallen asleep. He woke up from his 1.5 hour nap DRY! This is a first.
So about 5:00 rolls around and my parents bring him home. I was just starting to get dinner started, but made sure to ask Jax if he had to go potty. He didn’t. An hour later, I figure he needs a change so I pulled out the new Speed Racer underwear I bought him, trying to entice him to go on the potty so he could wear it. We went to the toilet and his pull-up was a teeny weeny tiny bit wet, but then he went on the potty and was thrilled to put on his new underwear.
He’s been wearing them for about an hour and a half now and is still dry. He went on the potty about 15 minutes ago. I am so proud of him!! The best part is that he is so excited. He really wants to wear big boy underwear.
So, I guess it is goodbye to diapers for us! I will use up the rest of the ones we have for night time and then switch to pull-ups at night until he’s night trained.
The big issue is going #2 but we’ll see how he deals with that when he has to go tomorrow. I stocked up on underwear. This kid has about 16 pairs already washed and ready to go, plus 6 pairs still in the packages. I also bought him the BabyBjorn Toilet Trainer and step stool
, both of which he loves. He feels like such a big boy being able to get on the potty by himself and feels much more comfortable on it than the little floor potty we used previously.
Soon it will be bath time, then bedtime and I’m not brave enough (nor do I think he’s ready) to attempt not using a diaper over night. We will start again tomorrow morning! Believe it or not, I can’t wait.
