I was mentioning in another thread that my son is at that point where he likes to make up words. It’s amusing and cute, but a problem can arise when he thinks he is talking gibberish and it’s just not.
We have this game we’ve been playing for what seems like forever. One of us will say “nose to nose” and we touch noses. Then the other will say “cheek to cheek” and we touch cheeks…..and so on and so forth until we’ve exhausted all of the acceptable and accessible body parts. It’s a great game. It makes my son laugh a ton and feel connected if we play after having a little tiff.
Well, we were playing this the other day and it was my son’s turn. Remember he is not yet even 3 and I know he didn’t hear this word anywhere. It was just one of his “made up” words. So out of nowhere he says with total and complete innocence, “dick to dick”. What do you say to that……other than laugh inwardly? I just blew it off and the game pretty much stopped there. We had played for a while anyway and I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it so that he’d think it was funny and keep repeating it. So far so good.
I haven’t heard him say that again. Although yesterday he told my dad “I beed a monkey” (we played dress up) and that he had a banana in his pocket (which he did), but of course my dad interpreted that as he “beat the monkey” and asked me what I’ve been teaching my son. LOL!
