38.5 Weeks and Making Progress

I went for my weekly check-up today at the OB and I’m definitely making progress. Last week I was a good 1-2 cm dilated and today I was a good 3-4 with a “very squishy/stretchy” cervix. Ewww! Don’t you just love the descriptions that OBs tend to use?! Anyway, she (my Dr) is expecting to not see me again for another appointment, saying that it’s going to be “days”. She went so far as to say it could be tonight. Hmph. We’ll see…….

She did tell me that if I haven’t had this guy by Tuesday, that I can just come to the hospital at 6-7 a.m. and they’ll admit me and keep me. Since I’m already pretty dilated, it won’t be an issue. I’m hoping it happens before then because I couldn’t even get an appointment to see her next week. I’m seeing the Midwife who works in the practice, which is fine, but it’s disappointing that I don’t have an appointment with her, if I am still pregnant!!

I actually have been having contractions all afternoon and they seem to be somewhat regular, but not close enough together to be actual labor just yet. I’ll keep you all posted….

Yes, I do know that, so of course I'm hoping something happens before then, but I have to admit, I am excited knowing I have that option just in case. And I don't mean just in case I don't go into labor on my own before then, I mean in case I am in awful pain and completely miserable like I was when preggo with Jax. So far, I'm doing great though and am planning on just seeing what happens.

Just talked to my mom - she was with me today at my appointment. It seems she pays more attention than I do or I just have major preggo brain. But anyway, my OB said that Tuesday morning if I came in, she would just break my water. She didn't mention anything about inducing with pitocen b/c apparently she thinks I'd go into labor very quickly as soon as my water was broken since I'm already so soft and dilated. Ooooh, yay!!!! From my own experience, I don't think I'd actually even wait on CRAZY consistent contractions. If I was having anything at all go on, I might call and ask them what you should do. The only reason I say that is bc I wasn't having any painful contractions at all, and they weren't regular, and we totally didn't think I was in labor... but they were def doing something b/c I was a good six when I got there. I'm so thankful I didn't keep waiting on the pain to happen... I might've ended up birthing at home. The nurses were so nice about it and told me to just come in so they could take a looksie.. and they kept me. Yay! Just like you said, once they broke my water, the action really started.
I know everyone is different, so this could not apply to you at all... but I am thinking of how I'll react w/ my next birth based on what I experienced last time. I was sooo glad I didn't take the huz's advice and stay at home until I was 'not able to talk during contractions'. He thinks b/c he saw that on 'the movie' (birth classes) that it's the golden rule of laboring. I am crossing my fingers that you are going to have an easy time w/ this labor, since you're already around a 4 and haven't had any real pain! yayayayaya!! GL!!! Text if you go!!!!! by IUgrad02
LOL! Well, this afternoon they were consistent at 20 mins apart, then 15, then 10 for a while, but then started getting random and then totally went away. At least as a BTDT mom, I am not too excited about it and also not too disappointed by it. I just know that I progressed pretty nicely from a week ago so it can't possibly be that much longer!! by Csara

I had been on pitocin for maybe an hour when they induced with L and the Dr. accidentally broke my water when he was checking my progress. She was born about 3 hours later! I think once they break your water, you'll have a baby pretty quick since your progressing nicely on your own. by CC21

I'm assuming since she hasn't been on here all night, that could be a good indicator, but she said she would maybe text when she left for the hospital... so I'm not sure. However, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt on that whole texting thing... she could be quite busy....
