My fifteen favorite 80’s movies!!

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done a Friday’s Fifteen and my husband and I were discussing movies from the 80’s tonight, so I figured this was a perfect topic! Chances are if you are a mama in the 2000s, you grew up in the eighties. You may have been closer to the beginning or closer to the end, but I think the majority of you are definitely familiar with these classic movies! In no particular order here is a list of my 15 favorite movies from the eighties:

1. Sixteen Candles - how freakin’ hot was Jake Ryan?? I remember wanting to name my kid that when I grew up. Funny thing is I still love that name, but it got so common (haaaa, wonder if it has anything to do with this movie?!?!). Also, our very close friends with a son just a few months older than ours, named theirs Jake!

2. The Goonies

3. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off - the first time I saw this movie, I remember being in the theater with my friend and dying of laughter at the little old lady driving with her beehive hair. All you saw was her hair over the steering wheel and I thought it was the funniest thing of all time.

4. Splash - I was fascinated with Daryl Hannah being a mermaid.

5. Weird Science - my brother and I were totally obsessed with this movie! We seriously used to watch it all-the-time until my dad accidentally (???) taped over it.

6. Heathers - ohhh, I was totally in love with Christian Slater (I even went through a phase of saying “greetings and salutations” - lol) and thought Winona Ryder was the coolest girl ever.

7. Pretty in Pink - Molly Ringwald just rocked!!! Did any of you watch the MTV Movie Awards a few years ago when she said, “‘I just had a baby and I fear that if I lean over (the mic) my tits are gonna fall out”?

8. Vacation - OMG, there is no one funnier than Chevy Chase and the Griswald family. I love every one of those movies!

9. Can’t Buy Me Love - I can’t believe what a dork Patrick Dempsey was, but I loved this movie!!!

10. Grease 2 - I’m afraid this was another obsession of mine. I remember when I was younger, it must have been a special week because Grease 2 was on TV every single night of the freakin’ week and I watched it every single night of the freakin’ week.

11. Summer School - I could never stop imitating the big guy who comes out from being in the bathroom for the ENTIRE movie and says “my zipper got stuck!” I also loved that I shared a name with the actress (Courtney Thorne-Smith) in the movie because my name wasn’t very common back in the 80s!

12. Big - I’ve always been a Tom Hanks fan.

13. Back to School

14. Trains, Planes, and Automobiles - Steve Martin and John Candy? I laugh just thinking about it.

15. Back to the Future - Michael J. Fox was cool in his Calvins.

I could go on and on….the movies from the eighties were the best.

What are some of your favorites from that time?

Comments:

  1. My rules for this list are:
    1. They had to represent a time in my life where I either watched the movie with my brother on that hot new network called HBO/Cable Box or taped on our fancy new VCR?!!
    2. I or my brother still quote lines to each other from the movie.
    3. Comedy category

My list goes a little something like this:

    1. Back to School - "Why don't you call me sometime, when you have no class?"

    2. Weird Science - Such a tough call not being #1.

    3. Just One of The Guys - Loved it more the 50th time.

    4. Brewster's Millions - Loved it. Richard Pryor and John Candy? C'mon.

    5. Armed and Dangerous - Meg Ryan's breakout role. lol. "Get it together Kokalokavich." I still say this today and nobody knows where its from.

    6. Better Off Dead - The biggest line from this movie? "I Want My Two Dollars."

    7. Spies Like Us - Doctor Sinellininin. Shake the dust off the New York Times review from 1985.

    8. Moving Violations

    9. The Goonies - Great cinematography. Shot in Oregon. "Thats what I said; Boodie Twaps."

    10. Back to the Future

    11. Trading Places

    12. Fletch -

    13. Club Paradise - One of the greatest.

    14. The Breakfast Club - All time classic.

    -Beverly Hills Cop
    -Three Amigos
-One Crazy Summer - got knocked off the list at the last minute by Moving Violations and reordered the list.
