Have Fun Indoors with Your Child
I don’t know how the weather is where you are, but it has been raining every day for the past few weeks around here. Being stuck in the house can definitely get boring, especially for a child that needs stimulation. Here are some fun activities that you can safely do indoors with your kids.
1. Turn your house into a home theater. Rent a video from the video store or borrow one from the library, make popcorn, invite friends and hand out tickets to make for a special event.
2. Make a picture story. Take turns drawing different things on a piece of paper. After drawing each item, explain what it is and why it is part of the picture.
3. Using a sofa for cover and a bunch of handmade puppets, you, your children and their friends can write and produce an enjoyable puppet show.
4. Make an indoor bowling alley. Stack a collection of toilet paper rolls as bowling pins and use a small ball as the bowling ball.
5. Use a giant piece of paper and trace your child. When you are done tracing, have your child fill in the face and the rest of the body with crayons and/or markers.
6. Play lively music that your child enjoys and dance. You can turn it into an aerobics class by having your child imitate your moves.
7. Nobody ever said Easter was the only time you can color eggs. Make an event out of a rainy day by coloring hard-boiled eggs and decorating them with crayons.
8. Get some seeds and plant an indoor garden. Or you can use seeds from an orange, lemon or grapefruit in the fridge to plant a small citrus tree. Plant the seed 1/2 inch deep in some peat moss and keep it damp.
9. Make your own game of memory! Gather a dozen or more objects and place them on a tray. Have the kids study the tray for two or three minutes and then remove the tray. Change the items and their number for variety.
10. Using a laundry bin as the basket, have your kids line up and toss balloons or balls into the basket for some indoor basketball.
What are some activities you do on a rainy day?

He loved bathtime. I would fill up the tub and let him play.
He had a big rug that had roads, houses, trees, etc.. on it. We would play cars on the rug.
We would roll a big ball back and forth
He had all those Tonka computer games, we played those a lot
We tye-dyed t-shirts once...wouldn't do that one unless you have a big piece of plastic down over the floor
He would help me cook
We read books a lot. Dr. Suess Foot Book was his fave.
