Fifteen books I’ve read this year

Fifteen books I’ve read this year:

  1. The Kite Runner (first book chosen for my book club - really good)
  2. Snow Flower and the Secret Fan (book club - loved it!)
  3. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time (book club - not the most enjoyable book at all, but sparked some good discussions)
  4. The Happiest Toddler on the Block ( had some good points on how to relate to a toddler)
  5. 1-2-3 Magic: Effective Discipline for Children Ages 2-12 (picked this up on a recommendation and will probably have to re-read it. My son was a little young when I first read it so I couldn’t relate much to it)
  6. Wife in the Fast Lane (book club - very fun, easy read)
  7. My Sister’s Keeper (very sad, but good read)
  8. The Memory Keeper’s Daughter (another sad, but good read)
  9. The History of Love (book club - loved it!)
  10. Eat, Pray, Love (book club - our most recent book, very enjoyable)
  11. The Glass Castle (currently reading)
  12. Freakonomics (eh…looks more interesting than it actually is, IMO)
  13. The Very Hungry Caterpillar
  14. Where’s Spot
  15. Peek-a-boo (I know I’m cheating with the last three, but I’ve read them enough to count and I didn’t really read 15 adult books this year yet!!!)

Has anyone read any of the above mentioned books? What’d you think? Have any other recommendations for a good read?

Comments:

  1. I haven't read any of those except "The Very Hungry Caterpillar"! Some of them sound pretty good. I'll have to look for a few of them at the library!
  2. Depends what type of read you are looking for, but my most highly recommended would be The History of Love. Also, not on this list, but one of my all time fave books is Memoirs of a Geisha.
  3. That looks like an intriguing list! Thanks for stopping by my blog, Csara. I've really wanted to read Eat, Pray, Love - it was nice to see your thoughts. There are several others I've wanted to read, but I haven't been able to deal with sad books this past year.
  4. I have read your last three many times myself!
I loved Freakonomics. I listened to it last year on my ipod as I was on the bus. Loved it. Really fascinating stuff.

I used the techniques in Harvey Karp's HAPPIEST BABY ON THE BLOCK, but haven't read the other one about toddlers.

I think 1,2,3, magic is a very useful approach to discipline. I didn't read this one, but my sister in law summarized the theory for me and I have been using it effectively ever since.
