Switching Pediatricians

My son is almost 16 months old and I am just now deciding to switch his pediatrician. This is something I should have done months ago, but the convenience of our soon-to-be old office was too great. It is literally 4 minutes from my house and their hours are phenomenol. They open at 8 a.m. and close most days at 8 or 9 p.m. plus they are open on the weekends. You can ALWAYS count on getting an appointment no matter when you call. You may have to wait a gazillion hours, but you will be seen by one of their 10 million doctors on staff. That becomes a problem though. It gets really impersonal once you’ve been there 25 times and they still don’t know you or your child. When the doctor you just saw 2 months ago asks you who your regular doctor is, it’s a little disheartening. The attention they give you is not top notch. The past few docs I have seen have totally brushed aside my concerns and acted is if mommy does NOT know best. So, I figured it was about that time to say goodbye and move on to more individualized care for my son. He certainly deserves it.

I found a new pediatrician by word of mouth. I have 2 friends that rave about this guy. I call to make an appointment, easy enough. I now just have to get a copy of my son’s medical records. Apparently that’s not so easy. My current office supposedly puts in a request to have it done on Monday. Come Wednesday, the day of my apointment at the new place, they still haven’t even attempted to copy my son’s records. What happens now? Will he or will he not be seen - that is the question? I will update later….
