Japanese Baby Food Update

Well, we went to Japan and now we are back. I was worried about what my son was going to eat and now I realize it was rightfully so. To get Gerber food, the only American baby food in Japan, we had to go to Toys R Us. There they only had 2 choices: banana and blueberry combo and also plain applesauce. It cost about $2 per jar. The Japanese jarred baby food was about $1 per jar and the only way I could sort of make out what was inside was by a drawn picture on the package. That was interesting. We tried corn and then a bunch of random things. The only one my son liked was a combination of bacon and some random veggies. We also bought some powdered veggie stuff to mix with water and lots of different crackers and cookies for him to try. For breakfast every morning, we ate at the hotel which had a great Western buffet. My son had a 5 minute boiled egg yolk (the Japanese are crazy for eggs!) and waffles or bread, sometimes some turkey and cheese as well. We tanked him up good knowing there wasn’t much else for him to eat the rest of the day other than breastmilk. Lunchtime I always brought a jar or two of food, but he didn’t take to them very well. Sometimes I brought some rice cereal in a cup and then just mixed water into it. He had crackers and often a banana as snacks. Towards the end of the trip, I bought some string cheese and brought that along with us. He would eat some of my chicken if I was having that and I think once or twice he ate rice. He was not a fan of tofu or yogurt or vegetables that were not pureed. My son ate McDonalds once, which I’m not proud of, but the kid has to eat. I peeled the fried part off of some chicken nuggets and broke that into little pieces for him, along with a couple of french fries. He loved that! Basically, he did fine. The food wasn’t much of a problem mostly because I was nursing him. I think had he not been breastfeeding, my poor baby might have been starving!!!
