The countdown begins - 4 more days until we leave for Thailand. I’m thinking I must be insane to have agreed to take an almost 16 month old on over 23 hours of flying in one single day. The poor kid. He hates to be confined and he hates to sit still. Good luck to us trying to make him do this for an entire day. Ofcourse he will sleep. Ofcourse we will let him run around the airport on our two 2-hour layovers. Ofcourse I will give him new toys and lots of snacks. But, ofcourse it’s going to SUCK!!! Or maybe not. Maybe he will surprise me and be an angel. He does love airplanes.

We’ve told him a few times that he’ll be going on an airplane soon. I think I need to keep reminding him and maybe fill him in on how long it will actually be. Airplanes are cool for a few minutes, not a whole day. But, it’s just a day. In the scheme of things, what’s one day? It might suck big time and I might be wondering what the hell I was thinking, but when the day is done and we’ve arrived at our destination, I’m sure everything will be great.

We are trying to pack light. The majority of my suitcase will be filled with toys and medicines. It’s hot there so cool, light clothing is key. Mine and my son’s clothing folds up quite small so there should be enough room. Our goal is 2 small rolling suitcases, 2 carry-on backpacks and one other soft small bag that we can attach to the top of the rolly. It would be optimal if we could pack the soft bag inside one of the rollies and only have those. We’ll see…

For three weeks of travel, I am going to pack 7 days of clothing and my basic toiletries. Things I am packing for my son are as follows:

• diapers for a few days (the rest we can buy there)

• diaper cream
• baby wash/shampoo

• teething gel
• toothbrush

• PJ’s
• inflatable ball
• shoes/socks
• shorts
• t-shirts
• 1 pair long pants
• 2 long sleeved shirt
• favorite book
• a few new small toys
• fuzzy blanket
• swimsuit
• small bath toy
