A Test of Patience
Have you ever been telling a story and the person you’re talking to interrupts and says, “yeah, you told me” so you stop talking….or do you continue sharing your story anyway? I find it a bit of a drag when someone goes on and on and on about something they’ve already told me. Or how about when someone asks you the same question they have already asked you? Pain in the butt to have to repeat yourself. If only they would have listened the first time, right?! Welcome to my world. I tried to do the math and this is a real guesstimate, but I’d say about a thousand times a day, I get asked the same exact question by my 14 month old son. It’s a continual “what’s that?, what’s that?, what’s that?”……until it finally gets shortened to something that sounds like “pthat?” and I answer off very quickly. “It’s a duck, it’s a fish, it’s a duck, it’s a fish, it’s a car, it’s a truck, it’s a car, it’s a dolphin.” Wow, what a true test of patience this motherhood thing is. I’m ecstatic that my son is so inquisitive and so interested in the world around him, but it’s tiring. If anyone else dare ask me the same question even 3 times, they’d probably get a roll of the eyes and a somewhat nasty response of “you already asked me!” For my son, on the other hand, I will answer as many times as his little heart desires.
